One hundred and seven miles, and not one of them wasted. This is the stretch John Steinbeck was writing about when he named 66 the Mother Road — the corridor Dust Bowl families followed west with everything they owned roped to the running boards. Today it's the friendliest drive of the rally: Sapulpa's brick streets, Stroud's Rock Café cooking on the same grill since 1939, Chandler's restored cottage-style filling stations, and Arcadia's round barn leaning over the road like it's checking on traffic. Pops, with its 66-foot neon soda bottle, marks the modern era's contribution. Then Oklahoma City arrives all at once — capitol dome, stockyards, and a skyline the prairie didn't see coming. A short day built for stories, not stopwatches.
